Not Quite Enough

Due to Delmond Young's 8th inning 3-run homer that sent the Twins game to 12 innings, where they eventually lost thanks to an A-Rod shot, the summary of posts will be delayed. Here's MLB's recap of the game.

Future 15 Day Commitments

I'm almost done with 15 posts in 15 days, this is number 14. I've got to admit that it's been kind of fun and it's motivated me to a few things I wouldn't have normally done. A few things actually got done that I would have said "I should do that".
So here are some ideas I've come up with that I may try doing intensely for two weeks and see if they get better or I get something accomplished that I've been wanting to.

  1. Revamp www.thelohns.com
  2. Get www.LohnSolutions.com up and going
  3. Write A few Gimp Tutorials and post them on a website
  4. The upstairs bathroom tiled and finished
  5. Microsoft Certification
  6. Photograph the same thing everyday for 15 days
  7. Make a site for the Quetico
  8. Revamp the Denny Green Page - (I get a lot visitors on thelohns.com because of this)
Just some thoughts...we'll see.

EndurancePlanet.com

I listen to podcasts quite often and I really like this one. It's a bit crazy, but the quote that stuck with me was that this guy and his wife made a promise to each other not to go through life sleeping.

Breakaway Friday: What Would Lloyd Dobler Do?
Specs: 16 mins, 18 secs | 4.67 MB
Presented by: Silverman

When Joe Kurmaskie set out with his two young sons to cover four-thousand miles on a bike, he wore a shirt with the abbreviation WWLDD on the front. It stood for: What Would Lloyd Dobler Do? Today on Endurance Planet we hear an audio excerpt from Kurmaskie's book 'Momentum is Your Friend' in which he tries to live up to the high ideals of Dobler, a fictional character from the 80's film Say Anything.

A Collection of Funny Links

I've been saving a few links thinking that I might post something about them. Well here they are in one post - they are all safe and a safe subject to talk about....

Photos of nerds at home dressed up like movie heros

Don Majkowski Demands to be Reinstated as Packers Quarterbackvia SportsPickle.com
"Former Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Don Majkowski has entered in a bitter dispute with his former organization, admitting he is "guilty of retiring too early" 12 years ago, while demanding he be reinstated as the team's starter or given the opportunity to play elsewhere."
The iPod name history (it does not stand for international pod and it's not funny unless you call an ipod an international pod just for fun):
"The name iPod was proposed by Vinnie Chieco, a freelance copywriter, who (with others) was called by Apple to figure out how to introduce the new player to the public. After Chieco saw a prototype, he thought of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and the phrase "Open the pod bay door, Hal!", which refers to the white EVA Pods of the Discovery One spaceship.[5] Apple researched the trademark and found that it was already in use. Joseph N. Grasso of New Jersey had originally listed an "iPod" trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in July 2000 for Internet kiosks. The first iPod kiosks had been demonstrated to the public in New Jersey in March 1998, and commercial use began in January 2000, but had apparently been discontinued by 2001. The trademark was registered by the USPTO in November 2003, and Grasso assigned it to Apple Computer, Inc. in 2005.[7]
Finally - the reason for the internet - my hero Bubb Rubb and Lil Sis - My favorite part is when they almost hit a parked car, then run a stop sign.

Gimping Photos

I've recently been playing with GIMP, the shareware (free) photo editing software that legally does what Photoshop does. I've also been thinking about writing some tutorials (which is one of the reasons I'm doing this 15 posts in 15 days thing - no sleep thing). Note there are some really good tutorials here. But here is what I did just messing around with it (note click on the photos to see them at nearly full size)....

  1. I started with kind of a cool picture (upper left corner is the original)
  2. I darkened all the features in the pirouette (silhouette - inside joke) (upper right)
  3. I changed the color of the sky (Lower left)
  4. I added a gradient boarder that was semi translucent (Lower Right and top of post)

Finally, there is one thing in the picture final picture that I editied for the fun of it - can you find it?

Note - I just previewed it and at this resolution, it's probably too small to notice - but if body glove wants to use this for a comerical and pay me lots of money, I'll take it.

Gas Prices

Okay - tonight I was going to write a post on National Night Out as we celebrated this in our neighborhood with Fire trucks and cop cars and all. I couldn't find that much and what I could find was google results, so I started playing with how to embed these into a web page - like Marti's stories on the side...but that did't work. I was playing with the search results for Gas Prices - even though it didn't work, I found a few cool things:

Cool Google Map of Gas Prices

Watch out

This morning, before I got out of bed, it was really windy. The wind caught the corner of the bathroom mirror that was in our bedroom until the bathroom is finished. And CRASH! It broke into a million pieces.

I then went from a run and was coming back into our neighborhood and the neighbors black cat crossed in from of me.

I found this wikipedia article on superstitions and it got me thinking even more...

I just wrote about the umbrella song - I didn't open it inside though.
I also told Granny that I wanted to play horseshoes yesterday - I didn't hang the horseshoe over the door though.

I think I'm running out of things to write about..

Umbrella and a Bad Run

Here's a terrible running story.
Erika and I went for a run the other night. We were only going to be together for 2 miles of it though. I was going to run for 13 or 14, so I had my ipod in my belt ready to play as soon as we split up.
As soon as we went our separate ways, I put on my head phones and pushed play. The song Umbrella by Rihanna came on. It's the only song I've ever bought from iTunes and it was over played with my buddies in Seattle, so it was kind of fun to start off listening to. After it was over, the next song was...Umbrella by Rihanna - I hit fast forward, the next song was Umbrella by Rihanna. Yep, all that I had on my ipod was one song - one song and 11 miles to go. I tried to figure out all the words, but I don't think I can still understand them. I also figured out that my external hard drive must not be hooked up since that was the only song I've purchased, that would be the only song on my C drive, everything else was on the external drive.
I heard Umbrella 24 times on that run - It's my most played song in iTunes.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia page that has all the info you'd ever want on it...

Fifteen Posts in 15 Days

Alright - it's been a long time since I've updated this thing, so to get me back to thinking about things like this that are important, I'm going to start with 15 posts in 15 days. I'm not sure what they will be about, but by 8/12/2008 - there will be a post a day.
